How we Budget Trips

a straightforward breakdown of the numbers behind the ticket price you are seeing

We know it is important to you to know how the cost of each trip is calculated, so we have documented our exact breakdown here:

Meals: THe Price Varies with the number of people on the trip, but assuming a standard 8 participants, 2 guides

  • Breakfast— $15/day

  • Lunch — $30/Day

  • Dinner — $35/Day

  • Snacks — $20/snack

the total food cost for the entire trip is a sum of the number of each type of meal multiplied by the number of times it will occur on the trip

Travel: THe Price Depends on the location of the trip, pieces included:

  • distance from LA: miles/(mpg of car) * $3.50/gal gas + $0.05/mile for depreciation of vehicle

  • Permits: national park permits are about $35 per car, camping permits range but average $18/night

  • Parking: often additional costs for parking in popular spots (beaches, etc) can have added fees

  • Participant Drivers: offered discounted tickets to provide transportation for participants

  • Additional Fees: if the trip requires special equipment (surfboards, snorkels, snowshoes) there can be an added rental cost depending on the amount of gear SCO has and how many people need the gear

  • Rental Costs: When trips use vans, a rental car fee is applied to the cost of the trip (usually when this will be a cheaper option than having tWo cars— on long out of state trips)
